South Close Community Clay Project

During the Covid-19 lockdown of 2020, ceramicist and member of Harrow Open Studios, Nicole Lyster was not able to open her clay studio to the public during the annual Open Studio event. Determined to still celebrate somehow, Nicole decided to create a community art exhibition on the residential round-about in South Close, so her fellow neighbours could enjoy some art and take part in something creative.

Harrow Open Studios, Creative Tree

With art classes, exhibitions and galleries shut, many artists lost their means of income and suffered creative isolation. Nicole reached out to her fellow artists of Harrow Open Studio with the idea to create a collaborative work of art which would bring them together. She made porcelain leaves, which she sent to artists so they could decorate in their own style, these leaves would go on to form a ceramic tile mural. Since the creation of the creative tree, the piece has been on display in various art exhibitions in Harrow and is always shown at Nicole's Studio during Harrow Open Studios.
