Mini Museum: Stone Age Springtime
Details
This is a wonderful sensory experience for children under 5, combining discovery, creativity and a touch of prehistory!
Unearth the secrets of Stone Age life in this playful, hands-on session for families with young children. Inspired by real flint discoveries in Headstone Manor, families will explore how early people lived, made tools, and created art. Children can become mini archaeologists as they dig carefully in our excavation pit, brushing away soil to reveal fossils and artefacts, then use magnifying glasses to see what they've found.
Handle a real ammonite fossil, make stone age inspired jewellery using elder beads and clay 'teeth' and create mud paintings using natural brushes - just like ancient artists might have once done.
About the Teacher
Deborah is Headstone Manor Museum’s Mini Museum Facilitator and has been part of the team for nearly four years. Drawing on more than a decade of experience in Early Years education and her background as a Forest School leader, she delivers immersive, creative sessions that celebrate both the natural world and the Manor’s unique history. Known for her friendly and practical approach, Deborah brings stories to life through sensory play, craft, and exploration — often accompanied by Bill the Mallard Duck, her beloved storytelling companion.
This event is partially funded by Learn Harrow. To take part, you’ll need to enrol with them in advance – we’ll send you instructions via email.
Learn Harrow is also trialling a new Progress Portal this term, where you can see your workshop dates, times, and content all in one place. Once enrolled, you’ll simply be asked to pick a few learning goals before your session(s) which will help the tutor plan accordingly. This process secures your place and ensures we can continue to run events like this in the future.
We’d love your feedback on this process to share with Learn Harrow. If you have any questions, just drop us an email at education@headstonemanor.org
