The site of Headstone manor and its surroundings have a long archaeological and historical record. At this time of year the area has always celebrated, whether this has been Samain, Kalends, Saturnalia, Solis Invicta, Yule,St Nicholas, Eden, Christmas and its accompanying 12 Days. This talk will look at how these were celebrated locally and how the season adopted the “trimmings” of food, drink, gifts ,fire, ever greens, songs and music, games, rituals and other celebratory traditions.
About the Speaker: Colin Oaks
Colin has been archaeologist since 1968 and has taken Historical walking tours all over London and Middlesex since 1982.He has a great love of the capital which lead him to take an M.A from Birbeck College in London studies which he obtained in 1988. Since then he has taken walking tours, coach tours, conferences and literary and summer schools on some 295 different subjects.
