Our work experience projects centre on a theme chosen by our Learning and Collections teams related to the museum focus for the year. Students will have the opportunity to work with teams across the museum, learn about Harrow’s history and the objects in our collection, and develop work of their own in relation to the project themes.

Our work experience engages with the following skills:

  • Museum (opening and daily tasks, critical thinking, introduction to history, attention to detail)
  • Object handling and care
  • Interpretation and exhibition planning
  • Research (object + local history)
  • Marketing (engage with the public and planning, creating content, following tone of voice/brand ID, design)
  • Learning (presentation, learning resource, key stages)
  • Engage with public (research, engagement through displays)
  • Photography skills

We offer work experience twice a year, typically one week in June and one in July. These weeks are determined at the beginning of January each year. If you are interested in work experience for 2027, please email education@headstonemanor.org with a cover letter and your CV. Our team will reach out when dates are confirmed and, if dates align, will invite you for a short interview before making their selection. Spaces are filled by the end of January each year.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

If you are working towards your Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and are looking for volunteering opportunities, we offer a limited number of spaces for Duke of Edinburgh students each term.
