Are you interested in history and art? Are you interested in working in the heritage sector? Are you interested in learning more about Harrow’s history? Would you like to share your experiences and views of Harrow with future generations?
The project Our Journey. Our Harrow. aims to discover how Harrow’s Afghan Community experiences Harrow through art. The project needs volunteers to participate in making our art collections available to the public to access. Volunteers will help us catalogue, digitise and care for our art collections. We are also looking for volunteers to participate in workshops to create new art whether that’s through painting, photography, or digital art. The combination of the newly created artwork and artwork from our collections will be part of an exhibition at the museum looking at Harrow’s expanding and diverse community.
Skills you can gain from volunteering:
Data Entry – including recognition and collection of metadata, use of different types of software.
Digitisation – knowledge of digital preservation standards, different types of devices used.
Conservation – how to care for different types of materials, fitting appropriate enclosures.
Public Speaking – opportunities to discuss the project in person and virtually.
Exhibition – choosing pieces to be displayed and information to accompany displays, opportunities to contribute personal work in exhibition.
Our Journey. Our Harrow. is a project funded through the National Archives and Our Collections Matter programme of International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property.
