Cancer Care and Beyond – The Story of Harrow’s Asian Women Cancer Group

4th February – 8th May 2022

Our latest Community Cupboard exhibition has been co-curated with the Asian Women Cancer Group (AWCG), based in Harrow, in line with World Cancer Day on 4 February.

The mere mention of the “C” word strikes terror in us, our families and friends. In the UK, it is now predicted that 1 in 2 of us will develop cancer in our lifetime. Diagnosis and treatment of cancer can be physically and emotionally exhausting and can bring loneliness which is often exaggerated by cultural barriers. AWCG addresses some of the social aspects of cancer patients’ well-being and belonging to such a group reduces loneliness of a cancer journey – they now have over 130 members that we support.

This exhibition is about AWCG’s work in Harrow, including their wider role in raising cancer awareness in the community through their story and their members’ journeys.
